- Extremely Compact Design. By using state-of-the-art micro-machining techniques, we are able to produce micro-arrays in which the overall size is smaller than any other similar available arrays. This compact design is critically important for experiments that involve small laboratory animals such as mice.
- Custom Array Configurations. In order to meet our customer’s individual requirements, our proprietary manufacturing techniques allow us to easily manufacture arrays in a very wide range of configurations Array specifications such as electrode spacing, row spacing, electrode length, number of electrodes, reference electrodes, etc. all can be easily changed to suit each customer’s specific experimental requirements.
- Very High Density Arrays. Our proprietary manufacturing techniques allow us to produce micro-arrays with very high density electrode spacing. We have the capability to produce arrays with inter-electrode spacing as small as 100mm and row spacing as small as 150mm. Thus, we can produce 64-channel arrays that can record from a region of brain tissue as small as 1×1.5mm. To the best of our knowledge, no other manufacturer can produce such high-density arrays. These high density arrays are critically important for experiments in small laboratory animals such as genetically manipulated mice.
- Flexible Connectors. An optional configuration available is a flexible cable between the electrode arrays and the connector to which they attach. This allows experimenters to implant multiple arrays within a very small part of the brain and then position the connectors at different locations to facilitate easy attachment of headstage electronics. This configuration is becoming very popular with several customers because it allows them flexibility in array placement that no other array manufacturer can provide.
- Options. Our arrays can be ordered with several options that no other manufacturer offers. A popular option with many of our customers is using a low cost interface board to hold the arrays in standard stereotaxic surgical equipment such as the very popular Koph #1770 electrode holder. These interface boards make the actual surgical procedure much more efficient, repeatable and accurate. Other options include a range of different electrode diameters, reference electrodes and Platinum or Gold electroplated electrode tips. Our newly developed proprietary procedure for micro-polishing the electrode tips keeps the shape of each recording tip smoothly tapered without sharp edges. Our customers report that these micro-polished electrode tips provide superior recording results.
